The ERS Clinical Research Collaborations (CRCs) programme provides support to projects in different areas of respiratory medicine, to build and maintain European multi-centre networks of researchers, from both within and outside of the Society.
CRCs are an ideal collaborative platform to involve multiple stakeholders in the projects, such as clinical researchers and translational researchers, with representatives from other specialties, including radiologists, biostatisticians, associated funding partners, patients.
This multidisciplinary approach fosters a dynamic scientific community and has the ultimate aim of advancing science and clinical research in a specific disease area, and to improve respiratory health and medicine.
ERS strongly encourages early-career member involvement to support their career development, in addition to patient engagement and public input into CRCs through the collaboration with the European Lung Foundation (ELF).
Each year, the ERS CRC programme funds a variety of projects by encouraging proposals that address an identified gap in the current CRC portfolio of activities. CRCs are funded for a 3-year period, and a project's progress is evaluated annually. For additional insight about the CRC please refer to the Editorial published in the European Respiratory Journal in August 2018
How to apply for CRC funding
- The next annual CRC proposal deadline is 15th October, 2019
- Please refer to the CRC Guidelines for further instructions.
- On July 2019, the ERS will provide an ‘highlight notice’ in order to encourage proposals that address an identified gap in the current CRC portfolio of activities. These topics will not be favoured during the review process, but if applications are equally rated by reviewers, this would be an important criteria for selecting one project over another.
Should you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact the ERS Scientific department.
To date, 20 projects have been supported by the CRC programme. In 2019, three new CRCs have been awarded, and a further two were renewed. See below for details:
